Caring for your cat's nails

العناية بأظافر قطتك

1. Why do your cat's nails need grooming?

Cat Health: Long nails can grow and curl into the paw pad, causing pain and infection.

Cat Comfort: Trimmed nails make movement, climbing, and playing easier and more comfortable for your cat.

Furniture Protection: When nails are short, your cat is less likely to scratch furniture or carpets.

Your Safety and the Safety of Others: Long nails can scratch when playing or interacting with your cat.

2. Tools You Need

Cat Nail Clippers: These clippers are designed to trim cats' nails safely and effectively. Do not use human nail clippers.

3. How do you trim your cat's nails?

The steps are simple:

Choose a quiet time: when your cat is relaxed or partially asleep.

Gently hold the claw: Gently press the claw pad to release the nail.

Look for the pink part: You'll see a pink portion inside the nail. This portion contains nerves and blood vessels. Never cut it.

Cut only the clear tip: Trim the clear, pointed portion of the nail, away from the pink portion.

Reward: After trimming each nail or even a full claw, reward your cat to encourage them.

If you don't feel comfortable, don't hesitate to seek help from your veterinarian.

4. How often?

Typically, cats' nails need to be trimmed every two to four weeks, depending on their growth rate and activity level.

Taking care of your cat's nails is a small but very important part of keeping them healthy and happy, as well as protecting your furniture.
